Tidal Pools

Jansen had Mo's clam chowder for breakfast, then met us at Mo's Annex for brunch.  You just can't get enough Mo's!!

Walking the bayfront.
My favorite bridge.

Jansen and I stayed in town all afternoon, then headed over to Seal Rock for low tide.

It was a good day to check out the tidal pools.  We saw at least 100 starfish.  The colors were amazing!

After another full day of the Oregon coast, it is time to head to Portland for a morning flight across the country.  I carefully packed our seal in a large box to check as baggage.  This is what it looked like when we picked it up in Atlanta.  Not too shabby and the little guy was none the worse for wear.

Mundo's

Paul and Jansen made plans to spend the evening at Mundos on Thursday and we (girls)............. invited ourselves along.  Paul had canceled all his events for the next several months so he could spend time recording his CD, but Mundos has open mic night on Thursdays.

It was great listening to him play and spend time talking around the table.  There were a few musicians and poets that played throughout the evening, but Paul is an amazing guitar player and he brought down the house.

**

Later, I told him that Jansen had a guitar and he wanted to know what kind it was.  Paul and Alyce have some really amazing stories about the guitars he owns, including one by Dexter Johnson (who made guitars for Jerry Garcia).   Funny, because J can name every component (from cogs, shifters, cables, bb, etc)  by brand, model and significance on his bicycle, but we have no idea who made his guitar.  Anyway, he has some homework to do....learn to play before our next visit to OR!

Friday morning, Mom and I walked the bayfront before it was time for her haircut.  We kept seeing this van driving around all week.

These guys are very talkative.

Mom, highlighted-short-curly!

Picking up Baby

After a great time at the science center we stopped across the bridge for lunch again - halibut, salmon, tuna, prawns and scallops.  Still not tired of the fresh seafood!

Then it was time to pick up our new carving by Brian.  He was stained and ready for the journey across the U.S.   Sue, Jansen and Brian
It's the law.  Cute, huh?
Then another walk on the beach.

Bayfront Road/Thursday Market

We drove the beautiful bayfront road out to Toledo to meet Alyce for breakfast at Sassafras Sue's and stroll through Toledo's Thursday Market.

Lovely views along the way.

Yummy biscuits and gravy at Sassafras Sue's.
The market was great and just the right size for us!  I got a cool tie dyed shirt from Family Ties  http://www.newportfarmersmarket.org/vendor-detail.php?vendor=74

We also found a really cool pet shop with some very rare and unusual animals.

Next, Jansen and I headed in the the marine science center on the bay while Mom and Alyce headed to Nye Beach.

I love the marine science center.

Jansen built a town.....
then destroyed it....

Sea Otters are endangered due to over hunting (as is always the sad-but-true-case).  But we had never felt the pelt of a sea otter before.  It was amazing.  It has the densest fur of any animal on earth!  We discussed if anyone would notice if it was stuffed under my shirt as I made a run for the door.......
Jansen made a friend.

But, Why's the Rum Gone?

Our rental house was right next door to where Mo's (Mohava) grand-daughter and now great-grand-daughter live.  We had an amazing view of the bay and watched boats of all sizes coming and going while we were serenaded night and day by the sea lions.

Paul took Jansen to lunch at Gino's on the bayfront.
We ate at Gino's too.  We started off with a plate of smoked fish...yum!
A nice stroll after lunch to look at all the boats.

Then over to the Rogue brewery.  The distillery that makes Gin and Rum was closed, but we caught the guy that makes the rum and he opened up to sell us a bottle of their Hazelnut Spice Rum.  Amazing!!
Paul stopped by the house and Rum and chocolate was had by all.
Rogue!
Then Mom and I went for an evening walk and picked blackberries along the way.

It was a beautiful sunset.

Fish n Chips!

Here is our newest family member.

He is about 42 lbs and we will have to check him at the airport.  (too big for carry-on and I don't want to cut his "rock" he is laying on)
Jansen and I stopped across the bridge for fresh fish and chips, scallops and prawns.
Then a walk down to Nye Beach.
Everyone calls Jansen by his older brother's name, so Paul just decided to call him Jack or "J.J."  So, he wrote his name in the sand.........
Alyce picked up some salmon for Paul to grill.

It was amazing with a yummy raspberry glaze.

 Grilled prawns, too!
Jansen did some of Paul's chores today, so Paul told him he had something special for him......it turned out to be a razor to shave his beard and a pony tail holder for when he grows a pony tail..........goofy guys!
