Mom and Dad's 50th Wedding Anniversary May 30th, 2014

Mom and Dad celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year!  My brother's Keith and Kris and their spouses worked hard to make sure it was just as special as the wonderful parents we have.  "They get first class treatment", said Keith.  We all agreed.  Mom and Dad wanted to keep it very small, so we decided to have a dinner party at Kris and Amy's house near Boerne, TX.

Keith and MiNa would not be able to fly over from Germany (they had just made the trip to visit last year), but we would instantly send pictures and notes as the dinner went on.

Amy decorated and found a great caterer, Kris inquired about B & B's and we all decided on Creekhaven Bed and Breakfast in Wimberly, TX, as a gift.

Notes were sent out to friends and family requesting stories and photos of Mom and Dad be sent to fill a "memory box".  50 years worth of great memories came in the mail and it was fun for Keith, Kris and I to see old photos of us as kids.

We made a CD full of their favorite music and songs from when we were kids.  Merle Haggard, Ronnie Milsap, Bread, The BeeGees, Abba, etc.

"Silver Wings" by Merle Haggard was the song they danced to over and over at our local dances.  So many memories of them together dancing to that song.

I remember this wedding picture standing in the front room or our house.

Wonderful, supportive parents.  They set a great example for us all.

Happy and lovely

Amy has so much talent for decorating and she set a gorgeous table!  The grandchildren all helped set up.  Kris was the heavy lifter.

The gentleman who brought the food forgot the salad so Amy improvised with green beans.  And I think the he was also surprised to find he was going to be our server.  His name was Rocky and he wasn't very coordinated.  It was hilarious!

All are seated.

Dinner was served.

Aunt Alyce made a memory book for Mom and Dad.  It was very cool.

I know each of us kids hope to have long lasting love in our marriages, like Mom and Dad have had in theirs.

Happy 50th Mom and Dad!!!  Love you guys so much!

Mountain Time

April and May have been full of weekends in the mountains.  The drive to Brevard is a bit too long for me, but fortunately there is a great trail at about 2-2 1/2 hours in.  The foothills trails is great for a run or hike up to the waterfalls or across the bridge and beyond.  Then I can finish up the last bit of the drive without feeling groggy.

There is also some great bouldering along the path.

Mother's Day Climb

Mother's Day is always an amazing day for me.  This year I was so happy to get a Craftsman tool bag with my very own shock pump inside!!  I will have to put my initials on the pump, so it won't disappear, but I am totally jazzed!

The we trekked out for a family bouldering session!

After hitting all the boulders a few times, we stopped for BBQ on the way home.  What a great day!!

Ride for Reading 2014

I have lost most of the pictures that were stored on my laptop, but I found of few of the Ride for Reading delivery in May 2014.  Gabriel Charvat put the whole thing together through the Ride for Reading program.

This was the first RFR in Atlanta and Gabe pulled it off nicely.

Jansen and I loaded up our books and drove into Atlanta to meet up with the group.    We packed our bikes and rode to a nearby elementary school.  Gabe had the children make a pledge to read their books then share them.  (I had video, but lost that too)

It was a great ride over with some nice folks.
The kids were very excited to pick out their books and we enjoyed watching the show.  After, the books were all handed out, we took a scenic route back to the cars.

Thanks Gabe!!!
