Sept. Cycleyouth Ride

We had a great Cycleyouth ride yesterday. Team members and other junior riders showed up to ride in the PERFECT weather at Blankets Creek.

This is an amazing group of young riders and they are so much fun to hang around.

After riding a couple loops the group went to lunch at a Mexican food restaurant. Yum! (I offered Wild Bill my hot pink running shorts to wear, but he turned me down and grabbed Everett's hoody, instead. I think he would have looked good in pink, personally)

We got up early to pick up Andy on the way. That gave us some time to get a bit more riding in before the troops arrived. You can see how excited Andy is to be with us......

Hope we get to do this again soon!

Hell is fluorescent lighting in a store........

Kindle and I carpooled to the REI scratch and dent sale in Atl this past weekend. These things are hit or miss and there weren't too many good deals for us this year. Still, I did get a water bottle to take to my mom when I meet her in Oregon. (in the store, regular price)

Shopping is my idea of hell. I don't know if it is being cooped up in a stuffy building under fluorescent lights or the decisions, that are more difficult than what gear to shift into, but shopping will usually ruin my day. I actually take my ipod with me now to the grocery store and that helps. (The boys and I figured out how to get an enormous amount of groceries in under 30 minutes, several years ago....yes, we split up and race to the check out.) Give me a long hike, ride or paddle, any day!

Hitting REI with Kindle was pretty cool, though. We got to catch up with our buddy, Liz and we snuck over to IKEA for those, who knows what kind of meat that is, hot dog combo! Brian made out like a bandit with some pretty cool stuff and Kindle stopped at Marshalls to pick up a cool Timbuk2 bag, so she didn't go away empy handed, either.

I think Kindle and I will do a lot more riding together than shopping, but REI still beats the heck out of Macy's. :>)

Cooler Temps

We skirted around the races this weekend and opted for a long ride at Yargo. Shey on the cross bike and the rest of on xc. Cool temps had me shivering in the car while changing, but very, very happy that fall is on the way.

These cool scarecrows were everywhere on our way to Addictive Cycles.

Jansen had to show off his super cool pink cranks to Jason at Lifetime.

Shey discusses how many yummy beers it will take to talk Jason into building the "you've got to be kidding me, what a pain in the butt" wheels. (with the made in italy sticker)

One of the rare moments when Everett is awake in the car....

A List of Our Life

You know you are a cycling family when:
1. You refer to your two children as “the roadie” and the “dirt guy”.
2. You are knocked out during the summer by the aroma of the huge pile of cycling laundry produced by four people, riding 6 days a week.
3. You order 4 Jumbo sized Muscle Milk containers at a time.
4. People don’t refer to you, when passing on the bike, by your first name or even distinguish whether you are male or female. You are just a Lindner. “hey, it’s a Lindner”
5. You steal each other’s gloves and cycling socks. They don’t really even have to be a matching pair.
6. You hide your Paydays and Jelly Beans, because they are always missing right before a long ride.
7. Your teenagers request that you DON’T stop for fast food, because they have a big ride and they don’t want to get sick.
8. You don’t have T.V.
9. You have more trainers and bikes in the living room, than sofas and tables.
10. Instead of, “did you wash my clothes for school?” (they really don’t care if that stuff is clean) you hear, “did you do cycling laundry?”
11. Joe Friel’s training bible is on your teenager’s nightstand.
12. Your Christmas lists consist of kits and components. (and that’s all)
13. Your dinner time stories are mostly about what happened during the race and/or group ride.
14. You race each other EVERYWHERE.
15. Three of you have matching saddles, pedals and grips on all your bikes, so they can be exchanged quickly.
16. Your son spends hours looking at frames and components on-line.
17. You spend the weekend with 9 teenage boys, in one condo, at a national race and think that is the most fun EVER.
18. You never spend much money on any of your pants because there is a very high chance they will have grease on them within the first few times they are worn.
19. When asked what team you ride for, you have the list memorized for each family member.
20. You buy six bags of boneless, skinless chicken at a time, 12 boxes of pasta, six jars of natural peanut butter, 8 dozen eggs, etc. just to try to keep up with the amount of calories burned in the household.
21. Your son teaches the coach at the public school about nutrition before and after a cross country running race.
22. Each of your kids could probably run a cycling clinic or race in their sleep.
23. Your teenage boys own a kilt and wear it daily.
24. They are not interested in getting their driver’s license right when they turn 16, since they can ride so many places anyway.
25. Your happiest moment, as a parent, is when the hippie van is loaded with bikes, camping gear, two dogs, two kids and an ice chest.

Life is good.

4 Hours of Pig

This is one of the coolest local races. It's laid back and very fun. Flat course, which is almost all in the shade. Very friendly people. No mic in your face when you finish. And a cool pint glass as your reward. Ah, yes, that's the life!

All the proceeds go to the children's home and Charles does a great job!

Shey raced his cross bike and was doing very well, until he flatted on lap 6. He said "that's enough" and chilled out with Jansen who had shifting issues and stopped at 4 laps. Everett cruised around on his Haro and had a really good race with 6 laps.

Of course I started my race in the porta-potty. I waited until the group came by on the Lemans start, then headed to the 'johns'. I must have flipped up my jersey just a bit, forgot my bottle was in my pocket (I had taken several of our bikes to the cross clinic the day before and had forgot to put the bottle cage back on) and I felt the bottle fly out......thank goodness it didn't fall in, but just touching the inside of the porta-potty was enough for me, so I swapped it out before I headed out on my bike.

Once I got going it was heaven! I couldn't believe how nice and cool it was in the trees. It got me all excited about riding in the fall weather....with the red, yellow and brown leaves.....ahhh, the good life.

I got to see each family member at some point. I stopped between each lap and filled bottles for everyone, laid out our food, and even got to have lunch with Jansen. (after lap 3, I think) Pretty cool. I love this sport!

James from Peachtree Bikes was having a good time and had an excellent race. It was great to see him out there. I met a Sorella named Brigette and her husband after the ride. They were very nice.

All in all a very fun day of riding.

Cyclocross Clinic

Cyclocross Clinic #2 was this past Saturday.

We had another great clinic this Saturday. Kristen came up from Florida to hang out and watch the clinic.

Ya' know, I hear you can blame those Atomic racers for EVERYTHING....any pile ups, poor manners in the group ride, the weather, plagues, bunions, losing your car keys, etc.........and here is a great picture of Ms. Atomic. Print it, frame it and blame away.

Trish, Adam, Shey, Kristen and I had a great time with this group. Everett grabbed some pics:

Dunno, what it is with the tongue, but it must help with concentration......

We had several seasoned racers at the clinic. It will be great to see the extended cross family this next month.

Kristen sits to explain why all the cool kids wear skin suits, while Trish stands over her...because it's the only time we can be taller.

Huge thanks for everyone who came for the clinic and friends who volunteered their time to give personal attention to each rider.

GA SS Championships

The GA Single Speed Championships were fun and it was great to see all of our friends out there! Thanks so much to everyone for coming out.

John, Torre and Artur. (can't believe the Sagats are all grown up now!)

It was incredibly HOT. I mean HOT and HUMID. Time Trial and Short Track on Saturday and XC on Sunday.

Single Speed is incredible fun and the simplicity is so good for the soul.

These crazy guys raced fixies. Ah, but then Scott talked them all into taking off their brakes. I can't imagine what Hodge was like in high school......it seems he can get the guys to go along with all his crazy schemes.

Most of these pics are from Saturday. We had two great photographers out there who got some amazing shots of these guys in action.

Hot girlies....literally!

Serious Bob

Rusty, Scott and Trev are hilarious! Their craziness at the starts was very entertaining.

It was so good to see Sven, Ann, Maria, Jeff and so many other people that we haven't seen in a bit. I wish I had a pic of Brian's (aka Sven) 90's skinsuit and helmet. He was hilarious and was melting away in the heat.

Maria even raced two xc events, because she like the championship jersey sooo much. It looks great on her, too!!

We really love working with John. It makes this whole race promoting thing fun! He's a great official and we are very thankful to have him.

We are so lucky to be part of a sport with so many awesome people. I had a small altercation with one spectator this weekend that made me realize how really cool it is that those guys are so very rare in this sport. We have soooo many good friends who are just cool people. Thanks so much to all of you for creating a place for my boys to become great men. They have learned to be humble and show their strength on the course. Thanks again!
